Questions & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything people ask us about the fig, the brew, and the switch.
What exactly is Coffig?+
Coffig is a coffee alternative made from organic figs that are slow-roasted, then ground so you can brew them exactly like coffee. Coffig Original is 100% roasted fig — a single ingredient. Coffig Gold blends roasted fig with roasted chickpea for a lighter, smoother cup.
What's the difference between Coffig Original and Coffig Gold?+
Gold — named for the golden chickpea we roast with the fig — is our closest match to coffee: lighter, smoother, and coffee-true, with 1g plant protein and iron per cup. If you're replacing a daily coffee habit, start with Gold. Original is 100% roasted fig, nothing else — darker and richer, with the fig's natural, caramel-like sweetness front and center (it's also the strict-AIP choice). Plenty of households keep both: Gold for the coffee itch, Original for the fig lover.
Does it taste like coffee?+
It brews dark and roasted like coffee, with a naturally sweet, caramel-like depth that's all its own. Most people find it scratches the same itch — the warmth, the body, the ritual — without trying to be an imitation. Sip it black, add your favorite creamer, or make it a latte.
Is it really 100% caffeine-free?+
Yes — naturally. Figs never contained caffeine, so nothing had to be stripped out with chemicals or processing. That's the difference between naturally caffeine-free and decaffeinated (decaf coffee still carries residual caffeine).
How do I brew it?+
Coffig is highly concentrated — use just ½–1 teaspoon per cup, about half what you'd use with coffee. Steep 5–7 minutes in hot water and strain (it's not an instant drink — give it its steep). It works in any coffee maker; a French press is our favorite. For iced Coffig, brew hot, let it cool, and pour over ice — or blend it for cold foam.
I quit coffee because of heartburn. Will Coffig bother my stomach?+
This is one of Coffig's quiet superpowers: it brews naturally low-acid and alkaline, where coffee is famously acidic — gentle where coffee is harsh, with no need to 'earn' your morning cup. It's also keto-friendly — and Coffig Original, being single-ingredient roasted fig, is AIP-friendly too — gentle enough that the whole family can drink it.
What's in it? Is it organic?+
Coffig Original: certified organic roasted Mission figs from California's San Joaquin Valley — grown, harvested, and sun-dried naturally. That's the whole list. Coffig Gold: organic roasted figs and chickpeas. Both are plant-based, gluten-free, dairy-free, and free of grain fillers, flavorings, and additives.
Can my kids drink it? What about during pregnancy?+
Coffig is a naturally caffeine-free food made from figs, so the whole family can share the morning pot — no age restriction needed. (For any specific medical or pregnancy questions, your doctor is the right person to ask.)
How does shipping work?+
We ship anywhere in the United States via USPS. Orders of two bags or more ship free; a single bag pays standard shipping, shown at checkout. See our Shipping & Returns policy for details.
How do subscriptions work?+
Pick your product and delivery cadence on the Subscribe page and your Coffig arrives on schedule, billed automatically. Need to pause, skip, or cancel? Email us anytime at info@coffig.com and we'll take care of it — no hoops.
Do you sell wholesale?+
We do — cafés, health food stores, and ministries carry Coffig at wholesale pricing. Apply for a wholesale account and we'll review it quickly.
Why should I quit caffeine in the first place?+
Because the morning “need” for it is withdrawal, not tiredness — and the research on sleep, anxiety, and brain blood flow is stronger than most people realize. We wrote up the peer-reviewed case, with sources, on our Why Caffeine-Free page.
